BAB Curriculum at Hilary's Doodle Ranch

At Hilary's Doodle Ranch, we believe raising exceptional puppies begins long before they ever go home with their families. That is why our puppies are thoughtfully raised using principles from the Badass Breeder (BAB) curriculum-- a structured enrichment-based program designed to help puppies develop confidence, resilience, and strong social foundations during their earliest weeks of life.
The BAB philosophy centers around helping puppies learn that:
the world is safe, people are kind and new experiences can be approached with confidence.
From birth through go-home day, our puppies are intentionally exposed to age-appropriate experiences that support healthy neurological and emotional development. Our goal is to raise puppies that are not only beautiful, but adaptable, well-socialized, and prepared to transition successfully into family life.
Our puppies Receive:
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
Beginning in the first few days of life, puppies participate in gentle ENS exercises designed to support stress tolerance, resilience, and overall neurological development.
Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
Puppies are introduced to a variety of new scents during critical developmental stages to encourage curiosity, confidence and sensory engagement.
Confidence Building & Enrichment
As the puppies grow, they are exposed to a variety of carefully planned experiences including:
* Different textures and surfaces
* New sounds and household noises
* Obstacle and balance activities
* Grooming and handling exercises
* Problem-solving and exploration opportunities
These experiences help puppies learn how to recover calmly from new situations and build confidence in the world around them.
Socialization & Emotional Development
We place a strong emphasis on positive human interaction, gentle handling, and creating emotionally secure puppies that are comfortable in family environments.
Temperament Evaluation
Each puppy is carefully observed and evaluated throughout development and temperament tested during week 7. This allows us to thoughtfully match puppies with families based on personality, energy level, and lifestyle compatibility-- helping create successful lifelong relationships between our puppies and their future homes.
Why This Matters
The first several weeks of a puppy's life play a critical role in shaping future temperament and adaptability. By investing intentional time into early development, we help give our puppies the best possible foundation for success as loving family companions.
While no curriculum can replace excellent genetics, responsible breeding, and continued training at home, we believe the BAB approach helps our puppies' transition more smoothly into their new homes with greater confidence and emotional stability.
At Hilary's Doodle Ranch, our commitment goes beyond raising beautiful Bernedoodles-- we are dedicated to raising well-rounded puppies with loving temperaments, strong social foundations, and the ability to thrive as cherished members of your family.
